2257 MAVIS - Spider Edition

Key Benefits

  • Easily maintain model identification information
  • Easily maintain production and production history information
  • Easily allow Department of Justice inspections of your 2257 records without fear of modification
  • Dramatically reduce the level of effort required to create 2257 records for your online production content and production history

System Requirements

The MAVIS Spider Edition requires a minimum memory configuration of 512 MB of RAM. The reason for this is there is extensive use of memory tables and queues held in RAM during the processing of the spider web data to accelerate the process of importing your data into the MAVIS database. We recommend a computer with 1Gb of RAM to make the process the most efficient, especially for larger web sites due to the volume of data that will be managed.

How to run the 2257 MAVIS Spider script on your web site

Once you've purchased the 2257 MAVIS Spider Edition you will receive 2 files via email, the mavis_spider.zip file containing the PHP script and blank data files to load onto your web server, and the System Control File with your 2257 Custodian of Records information.

Install 2257 MAVIS using the MAVIS install program and then replace the System Control File (CONTROL.TPS) found in the folder where you installed MAVIS.

Next, unzip the mavis_spider.zip file and you will find 3 files that you will need to FTP up to your web server:

  • spider.php
  • directory_list.txt
  • file_list.txt

Put the 3 files into the folder containing the root files of your domain (do not place them in the absolute root of your web server) and then, using your FTP client (we recommend using FlashFXP because it has a great CHMOD function that will allow you to change permissions on multiple files and folders all at once.) change the permissions of the spider.php and both of the .txt files to 777.

You should edit the spider.php script to exclude directories on your server that do not contain images (ccbill, nats, etc.) so that you don't end up processing directories needlessly when doing the MAVIS Spider Import Wizard.

Next, call the spider with your browser by issuing the command:

http://www.<domain_name.ext>/spider.php

You should see the output of the spider script in your browser window showing the progress of the script. If for some reason you do not see Step 4 completed, you may have a problem with owner permissions on your web server and should contact your web hosting administrator for assistance.

You can also run the spider by using PuTTY and logging into an SSH session and issuing the command:

php spider.php

You will see the output of the script in your console window.

Depending upon how many files you have on the server, the script could take some time to complete.
